Procedure:
1. Warm-up (10 minutes):
- Show the students a picture of a few different animals. Ask them if they can identify the animals and tell you the names.
- Play a short video or song about animals to engage their interest.
2. Introduction (5 minutes):
- Introduce the topic by asking the students if they have a favorite animal and why they like it.
- Share your own favorite animal and briefly explain why you like it.
3. Vocabulary (10 minutes):
- Show the students the picture cards of different animals and elicit the names of the animals.
- Discuss the characteristics, habitat, and behavior of each animal as a class.
- Write down key vocabulary words on the whiteboard.
4. Descriptive Language Practice (15 minutes):
- Hand out photocopies of sentence starters to each student.
- Explain that these sentence starters will help them describe their favorite animal using adjectives.
- Model one example sentence using a sentence starter yourself, and ask a few students to do the same.
- Students will work individually to complete at least three sentences using the sentence starters.
5. Pair Work (10 minutes):
- Pair up the students and ask them to share their completed sentences with their partner.
- Encourage students to ask questions and give feedback on each other's sentences.
- Monitor the pairs and provide support as needed.
6. Whole Class Discussion (10 minutes):
- Ask a few pairs to share their favorite animal and a few descriptive sentences with the whole class.
- Encourage students to ask questions and give positive feedback to their classmates.
7. Sentence Completion Worksheet (15 minutes):
- Distribute the worksheet with sentence completion exercises.
- Instruct the students to read the sentence and choose the appropriate adjective to complete it.
- Allow the students to work individually or in pairs to complete the worksheet.
8. Closure (5 minutes):
- Ask a few students to share one or two descriptive sentences they wrote on the worksheet.
- Recap the lesson by highlighting the importance of using descriptive language to effectively communicate.
9. Homework:
- Assign students to write a short paragraph about their favorite animal, incorporating the descriptive language they learned in class.
